December 2006 - More photos from Ian, and his comments.
Here are some more photos I took yesterday, ready for the next glue-up. I will glue in the mid-cockpit bulkheads (these are not in the plans) and the various pieces that lie against the planking at this stage. I think I want to paint the interior before I glue the galley and chart tables and their front supports in. The lower spaces at each end of the boat just have an extra coat of resin. There is a 4" hatch in the aft sub-deck behind the motor well. I was going to enclose the back and sides of the motor, but will just enclose the sides now, for better access and inspection. The ballast is filled by wire-brushing liquid resin into the surface, then fairing it with glue-mix. The skin fittings are recessed into the underside of the cap-pieces they are in, which are two layers of 9mm ply, but I will probably replace the plastic fittings (or whatever they are) with stronger metal ones. The wooden hatches will be set on foam sealing strips, with turnbuttons. I have had the deadlight rings (front and sides only) and samson pin cast locally from aluminium-bronze, from wooden patterns. I still have to machine them. The bilge-case caps are in three separate pieces, with rubber bumpers under the aft sections holding the skin-fittings. These pieces will be bolted right through the upper rails of the cases. I will take the edging pieces of the galley/nav. bulkheads right down to the floor. |
