Goodbye from Richard & Janet Almond, GSS and Potent |
3rd March 2024. I joined BMR (now Geoscience Australia) in 1970 and resigned in 1987. Since then I have been largely self-employed under the banner of Geophysical Software Solutions P/L (GSS), ably assisted by my wife and business partner, Janet. Around that time I started developing our Potent software, and sold the first licence in 1991. Since then Potent has matured into an effective piece of gravity and magnetic modelling software and, in combination with consulting and contracting, has provided an adequate income over the years. However, these same years have taken their toll. I had major heart surgery in 2019 and, while the surgery was successful, several years seem to have disappeared in a fog of drugs. Also, I was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease in 2010 and, while the progression of the disease has been slow, it has also been inexorable. So, I have decided to accept the inevitable and retire, effective immediately. Seequent Systems (NZ) have already acquired the IP of Potent (read “source code”) through their offices in Toronto (essentially the old “Geosoft”). From now on any questions about Potent should be directed to support@seequent com. Many thanks to all who have helped me out over the years, with both tolerance and helpful suggestions. Your feedback has been appreciated. |
